Murlu Musings: In And Out; Ups and Downs

It’s Monday, what a drag – my weekend was just picking up! Grrr. Anyway, I know you all said you enjoyed some of the Murlu Musing posts so I figure I’m gonna hit you up with one today to tell ya what’s happening.

In and Out

I was talking to everyone in the Mastermind Group about what they thought about about a hiatus; they didn’t like it buuuuut I kind of have to at the moment because I’m actually in the process of looking for a new apartment!

What’s this mean for Murlu posts? Well, I’ll still get some out when I’m struck with inspiration but otherwise the next 2 or 3 weeks will be a bit in and out.

I have to find an apartment that not only works well with my budget but I can’t get locked into a 1 year lease since my bud and I plan to go to Europe in February. So, I’ll be back and forth over the next few weeks – you can hold out, I know you’re the strong type :) .

1K Articles: Getting close

So, I know I haven’t been exactly the be best moderator of the 1K article challenge – should have made more posts – but anyway, in about a weeks time (Nov 1st) the 1K article challenge is coming to a close – how will we all do? We’ll report on the 1st – sorry to keep ya waiting ha!

Ups and Downs

I’ve been a bit moody lately – derp – mainly because I’m feeling a bit burnt out. In the crunch time over the last few weeks I’ve been trying to keep up with a full-time job, 2 blogs, emails and writing about 20 articles a night. But, whatever, I’m still chugging along.

Which reminds me…

Something badass is coming

In an effort to really stop screwing around and get my ass in gear I’ve started putting together an elaborate plan to revamp Murlu.

But waaaaaat?! I like Murlu the way it is!

The problem is that I’m really restricted right now – I’ve cornered myself a bit into topics that I’m not entirely interested on and want to expand them further but can’t do so at the moment because I don’t have the organization. So, I picked up a WooTheme (no surprise), plan to go a bit more minimal on the overall topics but really make the effort to create every post, essentially, a pillar post.

That’s right – be ready for some {expletive} great content! No more playing around with theory bullshit, we get enough of it everyday in the blogging world – I’m talking about real, actionable posts where if you follow along you can replicate it – traffic, money, business, etc, etc, etc.

I hope I’m making the right decision and frankly – I’m doing this a lot for my own sanity because I need to freshen up the blog.

Other goofiness that’s going on

Ehhh, here’s some random stuff that’s going to be happening over the next month or two:

  • Going to New Orleans over the Thanksgiving break
  • Relaunch (kinda) of Murlu
  • A lot more guest posts
  • Going to be working on a few eBooks for this blog and others
  • A shift and article writing focus to multiple writing websites
  • Maybe a podcast? Idk, my voice sounds like shit

In short: a lot of work.

I also want to step back a bit from my overall work because I’m beginning to feel like a shut-in; not getting out as much as I’d like to and since Fall and Winter are my favorite times of the year I really want to spend more time with friends and family. So it may be rocky over the next month or two but hang in there, I promise some baller ass stuff.

Okay, over and out.

Jealous…I’ve been dying to go to New Orleans.

I feel you on the burnout, I’m not there yet but I’m definitely feeling overwhelmed with all the shit that needs to get done. And you’re a killing it with the articles…20 a night!? Damn.

Can’t wait to see what you have planned for Murlu…no pressure. ;)

      Thanks for the support Jason

Lot of exciting things going on; just need to get it out of first gear and kick some ass. Have a lot of the overall mind mapping done for the update on Murlu – I’m trying to think beyond just a post here and there; I’m trying to get an overview so I can segway various series and posts together without making them feel forced and tacked on.

Don’t want to get too wrapped up in the thought process but I want to make this stick so I’m not back here 6 months later doing it all again.

That is awesome to hear Murray.

Seems like you are going to be pretty busy. 20 articles a night…Dude you are killing it..

Anyway best of luck on those apartments.

    Later brother..

Hey Adam, thanks on the well wishes – the one good thing about the housing crash is that apartments are super cheap now so I guess there is a little plus out of it all. Gonna be so relieved once the 1K project is over – not gonna stop writing but it will be a shift in focus overall which will be a nice breath of fresh air.

Awesome and best of luck. I’ve got exams coming up over the next few weeks so at least i won’t be missing to much. Keep up the work, can’t wait to see what this murlu revamp will be.

    Hi Murlu,
I can totally emphasize with the feeling to being swamped with things to do on short time. I also work full time and blog, and it’s tough! I just try to do a post or two a week and make sure that I’m sticking to topics I enjoy. It looks like the blog is moving in a good direction. Good luck with your apartment search.

Richard, you gave me such a great idea (that someone else should run with) – an entire category about managing work and time for blogging. I think a lot of people talk about blogging but not so much time management especially since so many of us have full-time jobs. Now THAT’s something I’d want to read :P

Thanks for the support; hope I can “wow” ya when it’s good to go.

    Awesome Murray!

I was just going through a very similar process in my own head actually – thinking that the blog has started to take over everything (Read: niche sites) and so I need to slow it down, by that I mean exactly what you intend: NO BS, just Pillars of awesomeness.

    Skype you later bro

Real-world, action, action, action. It’s like, screw all the theory, gimme some real content, ya know? I want some over-the-shoulder videos, podcast, checklists and everything. I want some rawwwww information that can only be told through a blogger’s perspective. That’s what’s going to stand out because the era of just writing tutorials is getting close to its end; people want character, voice, etc etc.

You keep that up Alex by doing more niche sites, come out with something raw, something that’ll blow us away. Doesn’t have to be once a day – write it once a month but make that shit count so much that our panties get blown off.

It does always seem that Monday’s hit just as the weekends are hitting their stride….

Anyhoo, it sounds like you still have some really good things coming down the pike. Quite exciting.

As for burnout, it sound to me that you must be pushing yourself to the edge of exhaustion. 20 articles a day + work + 2 blogs. wow. I am sure I could output that on some isolated productive day…but I would sleep for a week after

That is really an insane amount of writing, even if you are (as you must be) quick like a bunny

Don’t burn yourself out doing too much. even 10 articles a day is more than most people would be able to manage -even without a job-

      Going, going, going.

One thing I’m trying to do a lot lately is to apply your zero-based thinking to a lot of my work; hell, I only just got around to replying to the comments here because I’m thinking – okay, I really, really need to get this done ooorrrrr respond to comments. Yes, the community is very special to me (especially your input Steve) but I think there is leeway that everyone understands – we’re all busy people!

Once it hits around November I’m going to cool off a bit on the articles and focus a bit more on blogging and actually taking the time to do some fun things – been basically working nonstop for the last half year – one good thing too is that I’ll be able to focus on those pillar articles I’ve been wanting to write.

      Look forward to em :P

Hey Murray, I can see why you are feeling so crispy around the edges! I just wrote about this subject on my blog. You definitely need to have more of a life next month. :) Good luck with the apartment search, that can be a pain.

Looking forward to you shaking up the blog a bit!

Nope, it’s certainly open for everyone – it’s a bit off and on because people are so busy and I hope that it will pick up over time but so far it’s been really great to be on point with other bloggers, kickin’ around ideas and helping each other promote one another.

(I’ll hit you up with an invite when I get a hold of you soon)

Lots of changes to come, right?
I noticed some other bloggers revamping their blogs, concentrating more on less posts but more content and higher quality. I don’t think quality is a problem at your blog, you are a semi-professional writer after all, right ?
I wish you luck with the new/old Murlu :P

      Thanks Alex,

What the main thing that I really want to do is to use both my real world projects and bridge them over to Murlu and vice versa. One of the things I want to focus on in part of a series is business creation – which I’m doing at the moment and then I can write about it on Murlu – then Murlu helps reinforce the process so it really becomes 50/50 support/tutorial type series :)
