2013 UPDATE: ARTICLEME FOLDED UNDER AFTER A MAJOR DEPARTURE FROM THE ORIGINAL FORMAT AND HAS SINCE BEEN PICKED UP AND REDIRECTED TO A FORUM. IN ESSENCE: IT’S DEAD. HOWEVER, I’M LEAVING THIS POST UP BECAUSE IT STILL HAS BITS OF INFORMATION YOU CAN USE IN YOUR FREELANCE WRITING FOR OTHER SITES SUCH AS HUBPAGES OR SQUIDOO.
ArticleMe is a recently launched article marketplace which gives complete control of their content.
I recently began listing my additional freelance articles on ArticleMe to test the marketplace, to see if people were actually buying.
Previously, I’ve worked freelance on Freelancer.com writing articles for $2 – ouch! Like many people just starting, I didn’t quite understand the value of my articles.
Since joining ArticleMe, I’ve made over $30 from 3 articles just this month!
If you’re serious about getting paid top dollar for your articles, check out this guide on how to sell your articles on ArticleMe.
Set Up An Account
First, visit ArticleMe and create your account.
Creating an account takes only a few minutes and only needs a few details:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Captcha Code
Once you complete your registration, double check your email to confirm your account creation.
Write Amazing Content
Before you can begin selling on ArticleMe, you need to write amazing content. Everyone can easily write a 300 word post about any subject but the real trick is to see what people are requesting and bridging your writing skills with their need for content.
Take a look through what others are writing at the time, the tags and if there are any requests from content buyers.
Once you get a grasp of what people are looking for and the competition you’ll be up against, sit down and start researching your subject – remember, Google is your friend.
From my experience, tutorials and list posts work wonders.
I particularly write about business, tech and blogging which many people are constantly looking for.
Submit Your Article
After you’ve created your article, it’s time to list it.
Listing your article takes a minute or two but once you get the process down, it goes by very fast.
You will need to submit:
- Title – This is your article title
- Summary – A summary of the article
- Keywords – Tag your article accordingly
- Attach – This is where you attach your documents
The only one confusing part the first time submitting an article is the Licensing types.
Here’s a quick run down of what each of them do:
Usage allows people to buy your articles but you can continue to sell it. Think of this as renting your article out to different buyers.
Unique allows buyers to purchase your article and only they get to use it. However, they still don’t own it at this point which means it’s still credited to you.
Full gives up all of your ownership of your article. Once a buyer purchases your article with Full licensing, it becomes theirs.
How To Price Your Articles
I’ve been freelance writing for just over a year now but I still have a lot to learn. I generally price my articles:
- Usage – $7
- Unique – $10
- Full – $15
I try to play into the subliminal nature of getting a better deal. Sure the buyer could pick up the article for $7 but for $3 more they could have unique ownership of it. Likewise, a bit more and they can do whatever they want with it, including reselling it.
My advice is to price your articles with what you’re comfortable with. If you go too high, you may be sitting around a while to sell them while pricing them too low means you’re not getting paid what you truly deserve.
Payment Schedules and Cuts
So far ArticleMe has been running for just over a month now which means the first round of payments just went through. I’m happy to say that payment delivery was right on time at the first of the month.
ArticleMe is a marketplace and business so they are going to take a cut of your earnings. Generally they take roughly 30% from each of your sales.
To me, the 30% is fine at the moment because I’m still getting paid nearly quadrupal what I was getting for Freelancer.com jobs.
Final Thoughts and Tips
I’ve really been enjoying ArticleMe. So far, in total, I’ve earned over $40 with 4 articles.
Many articles are quick one-offs, taking less than 15 minutes per post so when I calculate it, I’m literally earning $40 for the 1 hour I invested writing.
If you are looking for a marketplace that is fresh and provides you with the opportunity to make money online, ArticleMe is for you.
