How To Make An Extra $20 Online Today

How To Make An Extra $20 Online Today

How many times have you wished you had just a little bit more pocket change so you could go out and spend some time with family and friends.

The allure of making money online is there but you may be a little confused on what opportunities are out there.

If you want to make an extra $20 today, follow just one of these suggestions and you’ll find yourself with a few extra notes in your pocket TODAY.

  • Write and sell a few articles. Freelance writing is one of the easiest ways to begin making money online. For the next hour, brainstorm five post ideas you could easily write – aim for 500 – 1,000 words. Could you finish this in a few hours? Certainly. Afterward, submit your articles to marketplaces like GhostBloggers, sit back and bring in the dough.
  • Sell something you have sitting around. The average household has thousands of dollars worth of items laying around. Most of these items have been sitting around for months or haven’t even been used. Visit Amazon.com and submit a few of these items on the Amazon marketplace, you’ll be able to pull in $50 in no time.
  • Utilize your skills. Hop on your local Craigslist and look for gigs related to what you know. There are plenty of jobs anyone can easily do such as online tutoring, fixing someones website, setting up a Facebook account or editing videos.
  • Earn money doing micro jobs. Microworkers is a website which offers users the ability to make money from doing small jobs such as digging articles, filling out surveys, writing a review, answering questions and many other tasks which only take a few minutes to complete each.
  • Answer questions for companies. Companies like ChaCha pay users to answer questions texted in from cell phones and other locations. It doesn’t pay a whole lot each answer (generally $0.05 each) but this quickly adds up over a few hours. You could combine answering questions with writing as this is an easy passive job.
  • Consult a local business. Chances are, you are quite skilled at social media but don’t notice it because you use it all the time – this is an advantage. Many local businesses are still transitioning online and need people to explain how to use social media and networking correctly. Simply do a Google search to see if a local business has a website; if not, contact them and make some money.
  • Be an online assistant. Many people and businesses are outsourcing their work to virtual assistants. Although it’s hard to compete with those that work overseas, it’s still very possible to land a reasonable paying online assistant job doing data entry, research or answering phones. Visit websites like Freelancer, ELance or oDesk to begin searching for these types of jobs.
  • Ask for donations. Yeah, really. There are many generous people, if you sincerely need an extra $20 today, you may find those that are more than willing to help you out if the cause is true. Don’t abuse this method however, it can come back to bite you.

Using one of these methods, you find yourself on track to earning an extra $20 online today.

Think about it: $20 extra dollars could be a night out to eat, gas in your car, a video game or book – just a little extra goes a long way.

Once you find your rhythm, continue to replicate it and soon you’ll see even more gain.

Good luck!

Disclaimer: I can’t guarantee you will earn $20 online within 24 hours because it’s up to YOU to put forth the effort. I’m confident if you have the passion, you will see success.

      I like ArticleMe because it’s still in its infancy so there isn’t a huge amount of competition. Once someone requests content, you can generally find a client in not too long of time.

      I hope you have great success on the site Tammi. Update us as you go, would love to see how you end up doing :)

    I am a HUGE fan of the microjobs! I thought I made that word up but apparently a website beat me to it. My favorite is participating in focus groups. You can’t do them all the time, but you can make an average of $60 for 2 hours of your time. You generally get to sit down and have snacks too :)

      I’ve heard a few of those advertised from time to time on the radio; they sound interesting.

      A few years ago I remember doing a focus group for $15 which just involved watching a video and answering questions about what I thought – it was easy and they did give me a snack too :D

      I’d love to know how you find out about them! If there are any websites which regularly list them or if it’s mostly word-of-mouth.

    Hi Murray, I found out about most of them through ads in alternative newspapers. I don’t know of any website that lists them. The ones I know about are in a few major cities in the US. Where are you located?

      I’m here down in Central Florida.

      I wonder if this means there is a great opportunity to build a website to list these focus groups and studies. There’s an idea for you :P

      There are a few penny savers that float around which list interesting things that don’t make it to the main newspapers. I occasionally hear them talking about studies on AM radio – I’m sure others can find through there as well.

  8. June 5, 2010 at 9:29 pm #

    I searched focus group hiring and Google returned 4 ads. One says $50/hour plus a free webcam. I subscribed, I’ll let you know if I hear from them.

      Thank you for doing this additional research. $50 sounds very attractive but I would dig down into the companies and see what others are saying as well. Please let us know how they turn out – I’ll have to do my own research and perhaps we can create a list of respectable companies that do these studies :)

      Microjobs are pretty fun overall especially when there are variety. The one problem I think a lot of people have with these types of jobs is the monotony of doing the tasks over and over again. Microworkers is interesting because there’s so much variety and it’s not all filling out surveys.

      Let us know how it goes :)

    • Murray Lunn
      June 7, 2010 at 12:49 am #

      @Joe

      Most definitely Joe. That’s one fallacy I see in the internet. We all love how much information we can get from it but if all we do is consume tutorials and posts, we never get around to putting them into work.

      Even the smallest skill has the possibility to make you money online but you do need to take that first step to start.

  14. June 7, 2010 at 3:34 am #

    @Murray: Sorry, I don’t know any focus group companies in your area. Mostly they are in big cities like Atlanta and LA. Feel free to steal the focus group website idea if you like! :) I am up to my neck in projects right now.

  15. June 7, 2010 at 4:59 am #

    Hi there Murlu,
    Awesome post. I love it.

    I always like reading your blog post. You do a fantastic job and I love the way you write.

    I haven’t tried selling anything on amazon, but I sure did sell stuffs on eBay. And I was making enough to cover my pocket expenses. It was a while back but I just didn’t put much effort in taking my eBay business to the next level. Had I known about dropshipping back then, it could have been different.

    Craigslist is a goldmine. No doubt about that. In January,I found a guy that was interested in having WordPress installed in 17 sites. I made a decent amount of money from that gig.

    I have done online surveys but I had to do it continuously for 3 months before I got paid. And it was mere 300 dollars for all that work. So, I thought it wasn’t even worth all the trouble.

    Great article and thanks again buddy.

      @Adam

      Nice job on utilizing Craigslist Adam – CL is very extensive and provides a lot of opportunities that many are overlooking. I’m glad you’re able to find these types of jobs.

      I think many people avoid CL for jobs just because there are so many spammers but for those that dig through the ads, there’s gold (just as you said!).

      It’s a shame it took 3 months for payment with online surveys. $300 is a very respectable income but yeah, having to wait so long is a bit detrimental of the service.

      As for eBay, I think now is better than ever to jump back in. With so many people feeling the slump in the economy (U.S. and around the world) people are looking for ways to pull in more money. You could set up a consignment deal with people – simply bridge your skills to those which don’t have the time or knowledge to do so :)

    Great list. Writing articles is definitely the fastest if you can write. If you are into answering questions for cash try Webanswers http://www.innovativepassiveincome.com/webanswers-com-an-adsense-sharing-opportunity/ I make money pretty much every day from that site and I rarely even go there. Got to love passive income.

    @Murlu,
    oh yes, there are a lot of spammers in Craigslist but it is all about taking the extra step in digging and identifying what is spam and what is not.

    You are right about eBay. It is never too late but, now my priorities have shifted into different direction.

    Thanks again bud.

      @Adam

      Once you can spot spammy listings it does become much easier. I’d suggest not to use your main email because there are those which are there to mine email so you can be risking your main account.

      I’m sure your other projects are definitely worth it, you’ll have to update us sometime on what you have up your sleeve :)

    I didn’t know most of these websites. Maybe it is because I’m from europe. But I can’t imagine that it is possible to earn much money for example with Microworkers. The prices there are really low.

      It would take a ton of work overall and there are better options for those that want to put forth their skill. It’s still pretty nice just to do a few quick tasks that add up over time.

  21. September 7, 2010 at 9:33 am #

    When I need an extra buck, I usually search the webmasters forums for WP themes modifications and small coding jobs, it is much easier for me than to write articles.

      Thats an excellent way to do things Cole – so many websites online now that you’ll easily run into small jobs that you can do in a few hours which saves the owner a lot of hassle and money because they wouldn’t need to go out and find a developer that would want to do it for a long term project.

  22. September 20, 2010 at 9:34 am #

    @Murray: Yes, that is true, the problem is that there is always someone willing to do the same job for 30% from what I ask and many times I lose jobs because of that!

  23. October 1, 2010 at 6:38 am #

    The most common way of earning additional 20 online is to offer service to other people. Take advantage of your knowledge and your skills in order to earn additional income for the day. Well, there’s nothing wrong with it anyway. As we all know, there people who delegate some of their jobs to others in order to maximize their time and effort to a more important tasks.
