Blog and Income Report: June 2010

Another month down, many more to go – June has seem to fly by in no time at all. With the end of June, it means another Earnings and Blog report.

Want to see how I fared in the month of June 2010? Let’s find out and get to the bottom of this.

Murlu: June in review

I can’t say I entirely enjoyed June. I made decent money online but many personal things popped up which has been somewhat of a drag:

  • Car engine died
  • Got a seat belt ticket
  • Overall exhaustion

But I don’t like to be negative so I’m not letting it get to me. Yeah, these things bummed me out a bit when it happened but at the same time it drives me to be more responsible and strive to make some additional money online.

On the positive side, I’ve really found my stride with writing – pumping out dozens of articles each week for both this blog, my other and for sale.

I also have a few new things that I’m working on which should come to light in the nearing months.

As for traffic, let’s take a look at how June 2010 fared:

Compared to May 2010:

  • +276 visitors
  • +1074 page views
  • +51 seconds on the blog

Overall, it’s up across the board – yay!

Earnings for June 2010

In June I’ve been trying new things, especially with my writing. A lot of the time I spent in June went into overtime at work because we’re getting ready to relaunch the website – this requires me to invest a lot of my time at home (plus data entry drains me after doing it for 8 hours in a day).

Overall though, June brought in some decent money online, let’s take a look:

Selling on Amazon: $49.95

Overall, selling on Amazon has dropped mainly because I haven’t had time to source items to sell. I’m trying to find my sweet spot with Amazon.

I’ve found that the real killer comes from shipping. Although I still make a decent profit, heavy items kill them when you have to ship far away. This means I need to go for lighter items that have a decent or higher value – more on this in the future!

Google Adsense: $21.66

Although I made a little less money via Adsense in June, the overall value of each click rose. There were some days where I made more money in a single day vs. an entire week!

I’m still playing with Adsense on my other blog and site so we’ll see how it pans out.

Amazon Associates: $35.86

Did about the same for Amazon Associates but someone did return an item that would have netted me $9.66.

I think I’ll be increasing my efforts to do more reviews and add affiliate links to the website. I’m also testing a few new ideas I picked up.

ArticleMe: $29.05

ArticleMe was steady again but I believe July is going to be a breakthrough month because throughout June, I have been writing a TON of articles to be sold there.

Total: $136.52

June dropped by quite a bit in comparison to May 2010 but I still enjoyed June quite a bit. I’ve been spending a lot more time networking with others which have already to build up – translating into higher earning potential.

Personal Life

So with June down, we have July on our hands.

July is going to be awesome; for the first time in a year, I’m going to be taking a vacation to Toronto, Canada to visit my good friend.

While I’m up there, I’ll still continue to work on a few things but I’ll otherwise try to take it easy – it’s once a year, I need some relaxation!

Also, July is going to prove to be quite massive in terms of working in at both my job and online.

I’m happy that my design of the new website was chosen vs. many other designers. After it’s all said and done, I can rightfully say one of my designs was used for a million dollar business!

I’ve also been reading and writing a helluva lot more – it’s building a really great habit.

I haven’t been partying much – thanks to my car going all broken and stuff – but while in Canada, my friend and I will be going to a music festival.

How did you fare?

Another blogging and income report down; now it’s over to you.

How did June turn out for you?

Cheers,

Murray Lunn

Wow that seems pretty nice. I would like to earn some money too :) But I somehow haven’t managed to do so. Anyway I will be continuing my efforts trying to build more websites and thus generate some decent income.
I like these income reports and I think of doing them on my blog once I generate at least some money ;)

      Thanks Julius,

I never want to come across as boasting – in some ways, I’d love for everyone to see exactly where my income is coming in and replicate it (that’s why I started the blog!).

In due time and enough effort you’ll definitely see a return on your efforts – just keep up with it and it’ll always pay off.

I did slightly less at $106 but if I put in more effort I could make so much more. Just need to find the motivation.

It’s all in the good habits you build upon yourself :)

I find it fairly hard to work on many things myself after a long day at my job but keep telling yourself “work done today is reward tomorrow” (hey, just made that up but sounds pretty good!).

You don’t have to do leaps and bounds right away. Write 1 more article a day. Do a tiny bit of a new website. Keep track of what you’re doing, set milestones, reward yourself and just keep doing it.

Hi Murray, looks like you’re making great progress on page views/per visitor and length of time on site (which I personally value more than absolute numbers of visitors).

Income, way to go! Making good inroads – although sadly not enough to pay for your car.

I’m going to check out the ArticleMe. You share some great resources on your site.

Thanks for the heads up Matthew and also for the condolences on the car.

I guess I don’t have luck with vehicles but in some way it has motivated me to step up my game to strive for more income online. My job easily pays the bills but those extra bits of income from online work really add up quick!

I hope next income report will be better than this (be on the lookout for some new surprises with the blog).

Where June might not have been as rewarding for you as May in the earnings department, it seems your traffic did pretty well, so well done.

Hey, and well done on the earnings too. It’s still money you didn’t have before.

      Thanks Ebele,

Very true. I can’t complain because you’re exactly right – it’s income I didn’t have before and the best part was that 2 of the sources were passive.

Putting together these reports really ground you on what needs to be done and improved. Even though it’s not nearly as much as some of the “big” named people pull in, it’s realistic. Just keep building and building. We’ll all make it if we don’t stop trying :)

Your earnings appear to still be good – same level as mine!

Yup yup! Traffic is always just as rewarding; I always love to see more people coming to the blog, enjoying it and leaving a comment – the income is a side benefit :)

That is cool about your traffic going up and making a little more money. My car was also sick last month but it was only the A/C so not as bad as yours. :( I am just starting to think about monetizing my blog and I am still figuring out how to find and use all those traffic statistic things.

      Hey Jennifer,

Many make it out to be extremely complicated but Google Analytics is pretty straight forward. I don’t think you really need to dig down super deep like, say, an ecommerce site. Just taking a look at the overall traffic is a nice sight to see :)

That’s a lot to accomplish the amount of work you put in for the traffic and content really paid off at the end . Good luck and may you receive many more checks .
